Keep Love Alive

Have you took a look at popular love stories

like the ones in the books and on t.v

how about Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet

is it just me or are those more like warnings instead

that's our examples of love stories?

That's the way industries want our lives to be?

What kind of love are we buying into here

and don't that look more like coercion and fear

our societies are full of ideas like that

death for true love, what a load of crap!

What part of that seems so wrong to me

that I can't begin to possibly conceive

how people can believe such preposterous notions

it's beyond my imagination and every emotion

that says love isn't some hair brained game

to build up a lie then trash it with the same

cheaply replacing one person for another

claiming cheap thrills as a conquering lover

sounds more like some kind of infection

without any form of natural affection

for anyone else except themselves

pretending money's all they need to love their self

while they hitch'em and ditch'em play'em and scatter

away like cock-roaches after the matter

what's worse than that being played like a tool

by someone always looking for a fool

to arouse when they want to argue and fight

not giving a damn about who's wrong or right

they just want attention some ill wrought plan

to prove that their worth is more than

the people they're using for all of their dramas

stressing their neighborhoods, kids, dads, and moms

then whining around and fronting a face

that they're not to blame for all of the waste

of time and energy and money spent on them

so what if you're upset it's just a whim

that you will get over one day if they allow

you to move on with your life somehow

they want us to pine away with some old love song

when we knew love was there, nope again, wrong

and drowned all our sorrows in a bottle of booze

brew in depression and puke on their shoes

oh my god, what is so "great" about being reckless

drunk, high, or pilled out or with some death wish

sounds more like the people you should stay away from

not model your life after or try to become

the ideas scattered across our cultures

makes me turn the channel and look for another

way to enjoy life for the day

and keep myself free from their dismay

that plays out like cartoons in the world around

when we're trying to live life in a way that surrounds

us with better things to think through and about

without all the hassling problems and doubts

if I could write anything to anybody

I would have to proclaim this to be

the one thing that living is suppose to bring

is love that begins, grows, and remains

as sturdy as a steel cement bridge across the sea 

where friends are just as welcome as family

to share and enjoy their time free from

the burdens that shadows them when their alone

for relationships that have grown up this way

know that those friendships should not forsake

the honor they built, the goodness they give

to all who have shared them and did not resist

the indwelling presence of a much deeper love

that can't be cast out or covered up

with anger and hatred, the temporary lies

meant to destroy the better of our lives

if only we'd acknowledge what real love is for

we would learn to never close the doors

to friends that we've known, to those we have loved

because what we shared was more than enough

to scatter the darkness and make right the wrongs

we perceived from others as we went along

to make our self better in some type of way

that would erase the wrong deeds and words we say

when not thinking clearly, when rushed and confused

so many times that we simply refused

to see another's way and try to work out

the problems that caused all our fears and doubts

about the people we have in our lives

our sons, our daughters, our husbands, our wives

their lives to us should mean much more than

what we need to feel wealthier and important

for what could be more important than having a place

with people around you to offer you the space

to grow and learn to forgive and accept

the little things done wrong that love forgets

because it is looking for the better in us

to let go and learn that in love we should trust

to increase our value and raise our esteem

and comfort us daily with kind tender dreams

of belonging and smiles and laughter and fun

not meant to ridicule or hurt any one

love says to grow as you can so will love

it includes and welcomes as many of

people it can find to help and relieve

the daily stresses that we all perceive

as hindrance and labors above ourselves

love offers us the buffer from all of the steps

that fear and anger weighs us down with

love is the hands that gives us the lift

to rise up and face those things that break down

and maintains our passage as we go about

living one day after another

mending our lives as we go further

into a future we can't always see

I want love alive! And living with me.

If you really love then death is not an option

it's not a quick feel or another proposition

love is the doing and giving of care

against all the wrongs around everywhere

we look to such piddly minuscule things

to give us a sensation to replace the beings

from whom an exchange of companionship gives

people to be true to, while our lives we live

love gives everyone what it wants to realize

how strong it can be how adaptable in size

to every situation to every purpose and person

it's gently persuades without diversions

it's not something to die for, or sell on a scene

it's to nourish and to cherish and hold to in all things

no matter what volume the world tries to sell

don't give it your thoughts to fight and rebel

you against love in some crazy way

that says to give up or to cast it astray

the people you cherish, the values you believe

keep love alive and with it live free

each and every person from young to old

with each one learning the right way to grow

without excluding, or thinning out

friends and acquaintances who come around

from time to time without much to share

oh I beg to differ, look, they are there

growing with value and keeping together

love, life and light all for the better

why settle then for something far less

than we would conceive as the best

way to love another in and over time

and treat ourselves poorly for some shoddy design

meant to slighten the needs of our soul

to love and be loved without being told

we should not be ourselves but give in

to what someone else wants us to bend

away from our truth in goodness and life

just so we can be by someone else's side

who don't appreciate our worth and our needs

as we have grown and learn to believe

"Love is a many a splendid thing"

many of us have heard that saying

but gave up the search because we didn't trust

our own intuitions and our own rebuts

when all we need remember is keep love alive

and when it is true love will recognize

itself as it is worthy and without a fee

to allow all involved to live and let be

the better of all that true love is

with all of the loving that living has to give.
