A Sure and Welcomed Treat
Away from home for oh too long, the want to be there still, among the trees that bloom with flowers along the mountain hills. Where night is lighted by the stars, a million there to stare, and souls are rested from their toils in sweet nature’s care. Fields of grass standing droop in morning’s heavy dew, glistening with sunrise light, the woodland scent brand new, damp and rich the fertile earth wakes with warming sky, giving breath to sweep up wind then scatter far and wide. Creeping deer tiptoe to river, their fawns close by their side, while fuzzy bunnies sneak a peek from their thickets hide. Turkey leave their pine branch perch to sweep back down to earth, squirrels run branches, ducks take flight, while birds all sorts search dirt. Oh to walk out on the porch to see it all again and feel the readiness to start and once again begin the daily choice of chore to take, to bring it to complete, the work of hands that gives to mind a sure and welcomed treat.
